The more facts that come out about the massacre in Uvalde, Texas, the more heartbreaking the entire story becomes.
I don’t want to write about stuff like this. On a good day my heart is heavy with all of the things that I have seen, and read, and studied as I rip off the mask and look directly at the horrible things that people do to each other. I study some terrible things in order to help people find the way to stay safe and protect their families from harm. But when people harm children to grab headlines, it is too much to deal with.
Some of the emails were from snide little jerks who took a massacre as an opportunity to score points in an argument with me over guns. Those people can go to hell.
Others wrote genuinely seeking answers.
I am not sure I have any answers.
Of course, the entire corporate news media, the politicians, and the self-important blue checkmark know-it-alls couldn’t even wait for the shock to wear off and the grieving to begin before they started in on calls for gun control.
Bottom line: gun control laws would lower crime if criminals obeyed the law. They don’t. And mentally sick people bent on killing children won’t let pesky laws stop them.
It makes me livid that children are pawns in what, to the politicians, is a game. They send their children to schools that have armed security, but lecture us about the evils of guns when we mention keeping armed Police officers on our school campuses, or training and arming our teachers.
They don’t want to solve the problem, they want to use the problem. Until that changes, nothing else will change.
My heart goes out to the families of the children and teachers who lost their lives in this senseless tragedy. To the parents who have emailed me, hug your kids and tell them that you love them. Learn to protect them, and stay vigilant. Stand up and join the fight to make schools a hard target. The world is a very ugly place right now. Be nice when you can.
